K4-8 Christian Formation
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee states that Christian Formation is a program that assists parents in the formation of Catholicism. What we provide in our programs can only enrich what you as a family, teach, live and celebrate at home. Keeping that in mind, below is a description of our programs at different grade levels.
For Children in grades K4-8, St. Roman Parish offers a weekly format. Children meet 3-4 Sundays a month from 9:00AM - 10:15AM in the school beginning in September and concluding in April. They are taught by wonderful volunteers who have a love of sharing our faith with children. We ask that parents be involved in your child's faith formation by reviewing the lessons each week and attending Mass each weekend with your child.

Preparation for First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Communion
Immediate preparation for First Eucharist and First Reconciliation is done on a parish-wide basis. This means that students from both our Religious Education Program and the St. Roman Parish School will come together on selected Monday evenings to prepare for these Sacraments. Students in Second grade or older begin preparing for Reconciliation (First Confession) in October and will receive the Sacrament in December. They will then begin preparing for First Eucharist in February and will receive the Sacrament on the first weekend of May. Click here for more information regarding First Reconciliation and First Eucharist schedule and registration information.
For children preparing for the First Reconciliation and First Communion students MUST have completed the one year of faith formation before starting the year of immediate preparation for the Sacraments. This means that they will be completing their second year of faith formation when they receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. This is an Archdiocesan requirement.
Saint Roman Parish believes in lifelong faith formation and in keeping with that belief all Confirmation candidates must be sufficiently prepared to receive this sacrament. By providing a three-year developmental program we believe that all high school students will be well equipped to make the decision to confirm their faith through the Sacrament of Confirmation.
9th and 10th grade students will be enrolled in "Pre-Confirmation" classes. Upon meeting the requirements of 9th and 10th grade, the 11th grade students will become candidates for Confirmation and attend classes for their final preparation for Confirmation.

By a signing with the gift of the Spirit, confirmation enriches the baptized with the Holy Spirit, binding them more perfectly to the Church, and strengthening them in their witness to Christ by word and deed and in their work to bring to its fullness the Body of Christ. Confirmation is a continuation of the journey of Christian initiation. The Archbishop of Milwaukee has determined that, in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, confirmation should be celebrated at approximately the age of 16 or when the candidate is in the 11th grade. Parents may decide for their children that they will be instructed for confirmation; however, the decision to be confirmed rests with the young person. There are four catechetical elements required in preparation for confirmation; Community, Worship, Service and Message. Additionally, the candidates must participate in a confirmation retreat.
